Background

K062 antibody reacts with the 46 kD cytokeratin intermediate filament protein as indicated by immunoblotting of cytokeratin-enriched cytosketal preparations isolated from villi of duodental mucosa.
Colrectal carcinomas consistenly expressed cytokeratin 20 while adenocarcinomas of the stomach expressed cytokeratin 20 to a less degree. Further adenocarcinomas of the gal bladder and bile ducts, ductal cell adenocarcinomas of the pancreas, mucinous ovarian tumours and transitional-cell carcinomas have been found to stain positively with the antibody. Most of the carcinomas from other sides were not positive using the antibody to cytokeratin 20, e.g. adenocarcinomas of the breast, lung and endometrium and non-mucinous tumours of the ovary. A consistently strong staining of Merkel cell carcinomas of the skin with the anti-cytokeratin 20 antibody was seen. This was in striking contrast to the lack of positivity in small cell lung carcinomas and in intestinal and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumour cells.
