Background

Melanocytes are pigmented, melanin containing cells being located mainly in the epidermis. They protect tissues from UVB irradiation of the sun. The antibody HMB45 reacts with fetal and neonatal Melanocytes, with junctional and blue naevus cells, but not with intradermal naevi and adult
melanocytes.
