Background

Vimentin is an intermediate filament with a relative molecular mass of 57kD. It forms, together with microfilaments and microtubules, the cytoskeleton of non-epithelial cells, e.g. non-muscle mesenchymal cells and cells of mesenchymal origin including vascular smooth muscle, astrocytes and numerous cultured cell lines. It frequently co-occurs with other intermediate filaments such as desmin.

Expression of this protein is retained during the conversion of normal to neoplastic cells.

Specificity

This antibody is positive with cells of mesenchymal derivation, including endothelial cells and certain smooth muscle cells of the vascular tract, fibroblasts, connective tissue, all types of blood cells, including thymocytes, interstitial and testicular Sertoli cells, ovarian follicle cells. It can also be used to detect coexpression of vimentin in combination with other intermediate filament proteins.
K024 can also stain permanent cell lines such as RD cells, glioma cells, fibroblasts (SV-80, 3T3), BHK. The antibody recognizes all vimentin expressing tumours such as sarcomas (including myosarcomas),
lymphomas, melanomas.

Fusion Partners

Spleen cells from immunised Balb C/J mice were fused with cells of the P3X63Ag8.653 mouse myeloma cell line

Storage Conditions

Prior to reconstitution store at 2-8°C. Reconstituted antibody is stable for at least one month when stored
at 2-8°C. For long term storage, it is recommended that aliquots of the antibody are frozen at –20°C.
Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.

Shelf Life

12 months from date of reconstitution.
