Background

In many immunoperoxidase reactions in which diaminobenzidine (DAB) is used as substrate, the interpretation of the staining result can be facilitated by enhancing the substrate reaction with the aid of a heavy metal impregnation. Cobalt chloride is particularly suitable for this purpose. A positive reaction product is shown in gray/black.
